2005-10-20 - 2006 African Nations Cup - Draw
The draw for the finals of the 2006 African Nations Cup has just been made. For details and full fixtures see my website or click this link.
It definately looks like there are no easy groups. The hosts will have
a difficult time of it to qualify for the quarter finals, as will
Cameroon in group B with two World Cup finalists in their group. With
neighbours in group D we should see an exciting set of matches that
kicks off with a match between Nigeria and Ghana both of whom will be
out to prove which one is the best. It will be an intriguing start to
the new football year in 2006, that for sure!

Group A: Ivory Coast and Morocco
(This is based on current form. Egypt will probably find a way to qualify as hosts)
Group B: Cameroon and Togo
Group C: Tunisia and South Africa???
Group D: Nigeria and Senegal (Ghana will not be far away though)
Looks like it'll be another cracker of a tournament. I really enjoyed the last one on Eurosport in 2004.

They dont qualify for the 2006 world cup, But I still belive in them.

| They may still be a decent team with good players, however, this time they missed out partly because of the disorganisation of their FA, as well as some of the big heads of their players. I don't think they're as good now as they have been in the past. It seemed to me that they thought they would qualify easily and that they deserved the World Cup place, but reality is often different from dreams. I think they'll have a tough time in the African Nations Cup too. Much like Cameroon, they should look at the positive side of missing out this time, because it should make them more serious and determined next time around. |
