I want to beg you, as much as I can,
to be patient toward all that is unresolved
in your heart and to try to love the questions
themselves like locked rooms and like books
that are written in a very foreign tongue.
Do not seek the answers, which cannot
be given you because you would not be able
to live them.
And the point is to live everything.
Live the questions now.
Perhaps you will then gradually,
without noticing it, live along
some distant day into the answer.
Gratitude is giving thanks for everything you are,
No matter whether you’re an angel or a dreamer from afar.
And what determines gratitude is attitude you see,
Giving thanks for everything, and all that you may be.
Your attitude is determined every day as you arise,
Will your day be blissful, or will it be filled with sighs.
If you are eternally grateful for everything you achieve,
It means that you are spiritual, ah yes, you do believe.
Do you know the special purpose that you’re here to complete?
Will you achieve your lifetime goal; will you get to feel replete?
If that’s the way you’re living now, to yourself you will be true.
And life will flow on effortlessly, in everything you do.
I know it sounds too easy, but it’s the truth you see,
It’s what you will discover as you pursue your destiny.
If you haven’t found it yet, there’s no need to despair,
As long as you are trying, there’s no need to compare.
No need to say I’m not good enough; I cannot pass the test,
For you’re equal to all others, and you’re as good as the rest.
So have a little pride in all you achieve, but be humble too,
For if you have faith you will believe, with gratitude anew !
Think if the things that make you happy,
Not the things that make you sad;
Think of the fine and true in mankind,
Not its sordid side and bad;
Think of the blessings that surround you,
Not the ones that are denied;
Think of the virtues of your friendships,
Not the weak and faulty side;
Think of the gains you've made in business,
Not the losses you've incurred;
Think of the good that you've spoken,
Not some cruel, hostile word;
Think of the days of health and pleasure,
Not the days of woe and pain;
Think of the days alive with sunshine,
Not the dismal days of rain;
Think of the days of hope that lie before you,
Not the waste that lies behind;
Think of the treasures you have gathered,
Not the ones you've failed to find;
Think of the services you may render,
Not of servicing self alone;
Think of the happiness of others,
And in this you'll find your own!
